Confirmation Program at FULC

The Confirmation program at FULC is 3 years, beginning in the 6th grade. Catechism classes take place every Sunday after worship from early September through May (view Schedule with link above). Confirmation Sunday, when youth affirm their baptisms, is held on Pentecost. This is the 7th Sunday after Easter when the church celebrates the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Randy and Vicar Kat will teach this year using a new book, Grace Alone: Lutheran in the 21st Century. The book focuses on Bible study, discussion and exploration of how faith comes up in daily decisions. It includes lessons on the Small Catechism, church history, worship, the church calendar, faith life, and how the ELCA works. The class structure is 20 minutes each of bible study, an activity/game and a catechism lesson.
In addition to the classes, attending the Fall and Spring Confirmation retreats at Lutheranch is strongly encouraged. These weekends provide reinforcement of the catechism topics taught by leaders from our SE Synod and an opportunity to engage in learning and fun with other Lutheran youth from our Synod.
We also strongly encourage parental involvement in what the students are learning. This sets up valuable talking points for spiritual conversation between parent and youth regarding the Christian faith and their Lutheran heritage. No one has more influence on their child's faith formation than a parent or close family member. When a child is baptized, parents make a promise to God. They promise to "faithfully bring her/him to the services of God's house and to teach him/her the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. As he/she grows in years, you should place in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for her/his instruction in the Christian faith…" FULC and its Confirmation program are here to help parents fulfill this promise.
