The FULC Story - About Us
A Brief History of FULC
Eight families met to discuss the start of a new Lutheran mission church in North Cobb in March of 1972; two months later, three Lutheran synods met and agreed that a model would be created for a new Lutheran mission in the Kennesaw Mountain area. The name "First United Lutheran Church" was chosen, since it was possible that all three synods would "Unite" to sponsor this church. First United soon began holding services in the basement of the Elizabeth Firehouse on Bells Ferry Road.

In 1973 the ALC (American Lutheran Church) decided to support the church, and in January of 1975 the first full-time Pastor accepted a call to First United Lutheran Church. Worship services soon moved to Big Shanty Elementary School, and a charter was signed on May 11, 1975.
Later that same year, land was purchased on Frey Lake Road (Now Campus Loop Road) to build a permanent church building, and worship services began in July of 1978.
As the North Cobb area grew rapidly in the 1980’s, so did First United. Construction of the Fellowship Hall was completed in 1987. With continued growth in the 1990’s, the church began another expansion that included a 2-story addition with offices and classrooms; this is the current structure that is still in use today.
Our current Pastor, Rev. Randy Jones, is the 5th Pastor to serve at First United Lutheran Church.
